Metallic Love

Posted by nemopriest on 2010.07.03 at 17:42
I have finally got around to ordering "Metallic Love" from Chapters. Should get it within a fortnight.

However, I've been reading excerpts from it on google books.

From what I've gleaned so far, it doesn't have the same magical quality as its prequel. I don't mean this in a bad way. I think it's just the colouring of Loren's point-of-view.

Verlis isn't someone I warm to from what I've read. However, I find him far more intersting than Silver. He seems colder. But this again could be because Loren views him differently.

I think Jane had a way of perceiving things that made them appear to be a sort of glorious hyper reality. But then she really (to me) did live in a fantastic world, in Chez Startos etc.

Am I the only one who sees similarities?

Hallo all!

It's been unpleasantly quiet -- but for those of you who still lurk:

Have any of you seen the movie The Man Who Fell to Earth starring David Bowie from 1976? I SWEAR Tanith Lee used much of it as inspiration for Silver Metal Lover. The timing seems perfect also.

What does everyone else think?

I found my ideal Silver!

Okay, boys and girls!!

I know that there has been some debate in the past over our ideal cast and I know that the significant controversy is of course.... who is best to play Silver?!?!

We'll I've definitely been pondering this for some time. Truly, I watch everything in the hopes of finding someone I think would be the perfect person to cast.

And now I think that I have finally found someone....Collapse )

New fan arrived

I read TSML maybe ten years ago and, as many have said here, I was never the same :) I was completely captured by the book and many years later it still has a place in my heart (Oh Silver...). Yesterday (!) I knew about the ML and ever since I'm looking for some info about the book, I read all the reviews on amazon site and found this comunity. I have to agree it's very, very unfair the book is not as famous as it should be, and indignant vs Miramax - still no film? we would have so much more Silver-like material - look what happens after Twilight and SML is so much better...
Now I have to find Metallic love somewhere, and it won't be easy, I guess I'll have to purchase it on amazon or ebay as I live in Italy now and won't find the book in local bookstores *sigh*.
I'm quite sad to know the sequel is not about  Silver as I loved him, hope I'll like Verlis but it won't be the same. Maybe because I'm ten years older as well :)
Thanks so much for this comunity :)

Dragon*Con Costume (with Pic)

Posted by valtinen on 2009.01.18 at 02:00

So Dragon*Con was a blast. I did five costumes: Seyonne (Carol Berg's Rai-Kirah trilogy), Jareth (Labyrinth), The Crow (The Crow), Howl (Howl's Moving Castle), and Silver (Tanith Lee's Silver Metal Lover, of course). I won't post all the pictures, but! I did want to share my pic of Silver.

Here it is!

I made the doublet for when I played Hamlet, but I think it looks quite nice for Silver.
Yes, I am that gorgeous guy modeling it. Do forgive my funny look; I was eating a breakfast bar.

More SILVER inspired fiction :D

I was going through my archives today... and found this :D

To A Metal Lover

Am I so constant as the falling rain

That pours in sheets of milky velveteen

And lolls, roll ebbing roll, along the veins

And currents of thy lovely metal sheen?

The rain to fall upon thy shadowed eyes

And writhe its frosted fingers delicate

Along thy mouth: such burning splendour lies

‘Twixt shards and mirrors steeped immaculate.

But thou wouldst wither at my fondest touch –

As among the flames of sweetest sunder

A man once died – but divinely such

The cross did burn, and cast, sweet surrender.

For thou art false, yet further falser still

The heart that loves thy silver metal will.

It's supposed to be Shakespearean-like :D

Sorry if I'm bombarding you with SML fiction... I was just rereading it again today. And it impacts me the same way every time, too.

I have been very busy with life, but! I am getting ready for a lovely thing called Dragon*Con, four days of pure craziness in the midst of scifi and fantasy freaks (just like me!). Costumes galore.

*I* have five costumes for four days. But I am going as Silver as one of my costumes.

Any suggestions?

Current Music: Pink Floyd - Breathe

I read TSML a few days ago... it was, devestating. Noo, not "IT SUCKS" kind of devestating, but the literary kind - as though you've been shaken by the greatest earthquake ever, deep in your soul. The ending was sad, so sad. I don't think I've ever cried so much from reading one book! In some ways, I have become Jane, and in the ending gave me a huge heartache that I can't quite shake off, yet.

TSML reminds me of a story I wrote sometime ago. It's a very similar plot (girl loves robot) but I wrote it before reading TSML.

My *wishful* self image

Current Mood: boredbored
Does anyone else feel sad that nobody posts here anymore? I know I certainly do. I need to reread my books  I am in major need of a Silver fix!! Anyway just thought I would share that with everyone. Let me know if any of you come up with anything new. I am to sick to death of everything to even begin to try. Hopefully reading again will make that disappear. Take care all

To my fellow Silver lovers,
I miss you all
